A tale of two necklaces

Don't you love it when you come across an item that you'd given up on... and it's on SALE??

I adore chunky statement jewelry. In fact, I just generally love accessories! There's no better way to dress an outfit up or down or make an otherwise bland ensemble pop. I have one amazing necklace from Madewell. It's chunky antiqued gold chain with hundreds of faceted crystals strung along one side (the second necklace pictured). Wearing it instantly lends a glamorous look to any outfit. It was expensive, and I debated the purchase a long time before buying it. I ended up wearing it to my rehearsal dinner before my wedding. I think it was an excellent purchase, though, as every time I wear it, strangers ask me where I got it!

Then I saw the first necklace, and I fell in love! It'd be so great with black or white tops. At $75, though, it was too similar to the first necklace. I gave up on it when it disappeared from the Madewell site and its brick and mortar store. I started looking for it on eBay with no success.

While looking at shoes the other day, though, I noticed that Madewell.com is having a SALE. I checked the jewelry on a whim and almost squealed when I saw my necklace marked down to $29.99. YES! Said necklace, which I've been lusting over for like 6 months, is now on its way to me.

Check out the Madewell sale - there's some cute affordable stuff! You can use the code SCORE for free shipping over $100, although I just grabbed my necklace and paid for shipping.

More wedding style!

The other day, I went shopping with my friend Jenn. Jenn and I were randomly assigned to one another as roommates freshman year of college, and we stayed roommates for all four years. I don't know if there's anyone else (other than my husband) with whom I could share a tiny room! Jenn, who is now a lawyer, has great style, and we love shopping together. One of my favorite things to do is "style" someone, as in, help them pick out an entire outfit for a specific occasion! Jenn has a wedding coming up next month for her boyfriend's sister. Challenge: the wedding is outdoors. In Wisconsin. In October. How would we find her something totally cute (and kinda modest) that would impress her boyfriend's relatives and also keep her warm in case temperatures drop? We decided to hit the mall: two ladies on a mission!

We ended up doing almost all of our shopping at Anthropologie, a store we both love. I should mention that dressing Jenn is kind of like dressing a Barbie doll: fun because everything looks fantastic on her!

Regardless, we pulled together this look for a fall wedding. I love the autumn colors of the dress, and the cut is flattering, with a nipped in waist. The neckline is modest enough for a family gathering while remaining youthful. Layering tights and a sweater coat takes this look into colder weather. We added some bronze accessories, like the bugle bead headband and some dangly earrings. We also changed out the brown sash for a belt to give the outfit a bit more edge!

I just found these shows on Polyvore - how freakin' cute are they?! And they're only $36 - too bad they don't have my size!

Wedding Style

I absolutely adore weddings. After spending an entire year planning my own wedding, I was sad to have it all end. I loved planning every teeny tiny detail of my big day, from my birdcage veil and feather fascinator to the kinds of flowers in my bouquet to the donuts in adorable individual bakery boxes we gave away as favors at the end of the night, a nod to our mutual love of The Simpsons. Now I get mega excited whenever someone gets married. I love helping and hearing details, and I especially love getting all dressed up!

My favorite weddings are those of my high school friends. One by one, we all seem to be getting married. After high school, we all moved away from Wisconsin, so weddings are our reunions. My friend Katie's wedding, which I have been looking forward to forever, is in a few weeks in Boston. I can't wait to see everyone! I last saw all the girls at my wedding, but, well, it's hard to really chat with everyone as much as you want to when you're being pulled in a million directions!

Anyway, here's what I plan to wear:

(This is my first foray into Polyvore, hope it works!!)

I am in love with Anthropologie's Primula dress - I tried it on on a whim when I was searching the sale racks, and it is so flattering and cute! I'm not sure about the belt - it might dress the outfit down too much. I'll have to check it out and see what works. Please note that I do not have that hot Stella McCartney clutch - I'll have to find something similar for less $$, although I do have a go-to black clutch from Express already :)

What are your favorite go-to wedding outfits?
